Yes, our plates are non-toxic and our bamboo is free of toxic treatment methods and food grade certified.
Properly sourced, bamboo is a highly renewable resource. Most people don’t know that bamboo is technically a grass instead of a tree, which is appropriate due to the fact that it’s one of the fastest growing plants on earth. In fact, a normal bamboo shoot can become fully mature within three to six years before it is cut for harvest. On the other hand, maple trees can take over 30 years to fully mature and can live for over 150 years.Due to the tolerance of bamboo to its environment, bamboo is easily grown and often raised organically due to the ease of farming. Its quick growth enables bamboo to be economically harvested, which is why even builders and homeowners have switched to using bamboo due to its great durability and affordability.
Designed in Australia and manufactured in China
Our plates are made of natural bamboo therefore they cannot be put in the dishwasher or microwave. Simply wash with slightly soapy cold water and towel dry before placing vertically on a dish rack to air dry.You should moisturize your Emondo Kids product on a regular basis. Every 2-3 weeks depending on frequency of use. A little bit of regular TLC will keep your plate or bowl in the best possible condition for years to come.Simply wipe over or spay on a small amount (5ml Approx.) of Fractionated Coconut oil over the entire surface of the product, including sides and vertical surfaces, then let sit for for a few hours, preferably overnight. Rinse clean and you’re good to go.Bamboo is a natural fibre and naturally loses moisture over time. To ensure long term use from your product it is important to retain the moisture within the Bamboo. This not only helps maintain the integrity of the Bamboo, but also helps disinfect the item due to the Fractionated Oils antibacterial qualities. GENERAL CAREHand wash before initial useDo not put in the dishwasherDo not put in the MicrowaveDo not submerge or soak in waterWash with warm soapy water and towel dry immediatelyStand upright in a well ventilated area until completely dryDo not dry flatTo remove tough stains you can just use some baking soda and vinegar on the stain in circle motion until the stain is gone and then rinse as normal.Rub a lemon slice with coarse salt once a month on the plate to refresh it before treating it with the oil.
The bamboo is harvested and then cut into strips, lengthwise. After being cut the bamboo is pressure-steamed, a process also called carbonization, to get rid of bugs. The longer you carbonize the bamboo, the darker–and softer–it gets, meaning it’s only done up to a point.
Once the bamboo is pliable, a plate can be produced from multiple pieces by lamination. Be warned that some bamboo products are processed using formaldehyde and glues, which can leech into your food and gas out over time. You should always check before buying a bamboo item that the supplier uses non-toxic treatment methods or has organic practices just like our manufacturer.
Is there anything coconut oil can’t do?! We cook with it, bake with it, and even use it as a skin and hair moisturizer. In the kitchen, it turns out FRACTIONATED coconut oil is an excellent medium for seasoning cast iron pans, cutting boards and our bamboo plates too. I started using fractionated coconut oil to care for our plates/boards after looking for an alternative to petroleum-based mineral oil. Unlike many plant-based oils, fractionated coconut oil has a stable shelf life and it won’t go rancid. Plus it’s nut-free for those who can’t use the often-recommended walnut, almond, tung, or flaxseed oils. Rubbing fractionated coconut oil onto our bamboo plates and cutting boards will keep them nicely protected and you won’t have any problems with unwanted coconut flavor or smell.
Fractionated Coconut Oil is so-called because long-chain triglycerides are extracted from a small fraction of the coconut oil, leaving it with mostly medium-chain triglycerides. This makes it an oil with a heavy saturation level, which is what gives coconut oil its lengthy shelf life and stability. The heavy concentration of capric and caprylic acids also gives Fractionated Coconut Oil its strong disinfectant and anti-oxidant characteristics. Please do not use normal coconut oil on your plates or it will go rancid. Fractionated coconut oil can be also used for a number of purposes, including hair care products, soaps, lotions and cosmetics, as a carrier oil in aromatherapy and in massage therapy.
The colour of the plate and the depth of the lasered features varies for production, this is due to the fact that the young bamboo texture is quite bright, soft and loose, the old bamboo is darker and texture is firm and hard. When the laser machine works in same time and temperature, the finished depth will be different and inconsistent, the texture will be smoother or rougher and the product might be dark or light. The age of the bamboo for production cant be selected and cannot be controlled has this is purely due to the nature of a natural product.
Our products are hand made, hand sanded one by one so as per any other natural and hand-made products there will have small imperfections, but thats what makes them unique!
Baking Soda Method
Baking soda is a mild, white mineral powder, that can be used to kill mould in your home, plus it is safe for your family and pets. Besides killing mould, it will absorb moisture to help keep mould away. Add one quarter of a tablespoon of baking soda to a spray bottle of water and shake until it has dissolved. Spray the mouldy area with the baking soda and water solution, then use a scrub brush to remove all the mould from the surface. Next, rinse the surface with water to remove any residual mould on the surface. Finally, spray the area again and let the surface dry. (This will kill any left-over mould and prevent the mould from returning).
All of these solutions are great non-toxic alternatives to chemical based cleaners. Not only because they are safe to use and safe for the environment, but all of these products inexpensive and easy to find in your local store.
The silicone grip on our bowls and plates should not loose suction over time. However, there have been occasions where customers report that they feel the suction grip has lost power. We spent a great deal of time researching this and learned that sometimes oil from dish soaps and washing liquids can build up to the surface of the silicone causing them to loose suction with a surface. To remove the soapy oil rub a cut lemon or lime all over the silicone and let it sit for 10mins. Then rinse it off with hot water. It doesn’t have to be a brand new, freshly cut fruit either. A half used or squeezed one will do. This should make your silicone suction super clean and powerful again!
