Unlike many plant-based oils, FCO (fractionated coconut oil) has a stable shelf life and it won’t go rancid. Plus it’s nut-free for those who can’t use the often-recommended walnut, almond, tung, or flaxseed oils. Rubbing fractionated coconut oil onto our bamboo plates and cutting boards will keep them nicely protected and you won’t have any problems with unwanted coconut flavor or smell.
Depending on how often you use your plates, you should also give them an oiling to help maintain their surface and keep them from drying out. In our house, this happens about once a fortnight.
Before you start, be sure your plates are very clean. I like to give them a scrub with lemon and salt. The plates should also be dry before oiling, so be sure to build that into your timing.
The oil should be left to soak in as long as possible, too. Try to apply the oil in the evening before bed and then just give them a quick wipe the next morning to take off any excess oil.
I recently bought the EMONDO bamboo plate, bowl and a cutlery set for my 8 month old daughter. Once I opened up my order I was so amazed at how great the quality was and knew I had to buy the oil spray so I could take care of them. The spray is easy to use and once the steps are finished the plates and bowls look brand spankin new! Definite must have!
